How storyfuel Gives Back
Here’s how StoryFuel (and it’s founder, Melanie Deziel) are finding ways to give back, large and small,
StoryFuel was founded with the mission to teach, so Melanie ensures her schedule allows for up to four workshops or keynotes a year for educational institutions at a reduced fee.
Each installment of the Brand Storyteller Mastermind includes at least one “Creator Scholarship,” offering a student, unemployed or non-profit storyteller the chance to attend and learn, at no cost.
Melanie is also a big fan of Little Free Libraries, and frequently contribute books to these reading hubs..
the earth (we only get one)
Air travel is often necessary for StoryFuel’s work, but we know it’s not great for the environment. Each quarter, StoryFuel purchases a carbon offset through The Good Traveler to support carbon-reducing projects.
We strive to be eco-friendly in as many ways as possible; we use digital invoices, request digital payments, avoid printed handouts in workshops, and more. Personally, Melanie recycles, reuses, thrifts, avoids plastic whenever possible, uses shared/public transportation, and brings a reusable tote bag, mug, water bottle, straw and silverware on her travels.
women in our community
Melanie spends up to 100 nights a year in hotels while traveling to give keynotes and workshops on behalf of StoryFuel. She collects all hotel toiletries for donation to Women Rising, a women’s shelter in Jersey City, NJ. She has also donated 100+ menstrual kits for Women Rising to date, inspired by Period.org.
Melanie was lucky to benefit from scholarship and mentorship through She Runs It, an organization supporting women in media and tech. StoryFuel donates to the VIP Raffle annually to support the scholarship fund.
